Jay-Z to open newly renovated Hollywood Palladium
Live Nation (NYSE: LYV) announced today that Grammy award winning international superstar JAY-Z will christen the newly renovated, world famous Hollywood Palladium, with an intimate performance on Wednesday, October 15th. Reminiscent of Frank Sinatra, who was the first performer on the legendary stage in 1940, JAY-Z, with an incredible 12-piece band backing him, will be the first artist to play the venue which has undergone a year-long, top-to-bottom renovation, bringing the iconic music venue back to its original grandeur. Built expressly for the purpose of showcasing live music, The Hollywood Palladium opened its doors on September 23, 1940 with a concert by the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra featuring the soon to be famous Frank Sinatra. In those days, the Palladium was the place to be seen for celebrities and wildly popular with local music and dance fans as well.
"I'm honored to play such an iconic venue. Just as Frank ushered in a golden era, I hope this opening will mark the beginning of a resurgence in generation defining live music," stated JAY-Z.
The venue is receiving a total renovation of all interior and exterior areas including a new dance floor, a new façade that emulates the building’s original architecture, expanded concessions, upgraded restrooms, improved interior lighting, as well as brand new paint and carpeting, all of which are congruent with the venue’s original look. In addition, major upgrades have been made to the stage infrastructure which will enable the venue to accommodate larger, modern productions. Sound experts are revamping the acoustic treatments on the inside of the venue, which is expected to give music fans the best concert experience possible.
In 1961 the venue became a television studio and over the years has served as the location for such award shows as the Emmy Awards, The Grammy Awards, The NAACP Awards and Country Music Awards. Eventually the venue returned to its musical roots, hosting many of the biggest names in rock and roll throughout the decades, including everyone from The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Led Zeppelin, The Who and Rod Stewart to The Police, The Replacements, The Clash, Public Enemy, Metallica, Jane’s Addiction, The Pixies, Beastie Boys, No Doubt and Red Hot Chili Peppers, just to name a few. Rap impresario Dr. Dre's 20-year-old son was found dead over the weekend in his Woodland Hills home, coroner's officials said.
Andre R. Young Jr. had been out with friends the night before and was discovered in his bed by his mother at 10:24 a.m. Saturday, said
"She found him unresponsive and called paramedics," Winter said, adding that an autopsy had been completed but that determination of the cause of death was deferred pending the outcome of a "gamut of tests, including toxicology."
Andre Young Sr., professionally known as Dr. Dre, released a statement to AllHipHop.com on the death of his son, through a representative.
"Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son Andre Young Jr. Please respect his family's grief and privacy at this time," the representative told the website.
Rapper-producer Dr. Dre is currently working on what is being called his final studio album, "Detox." He was a member of the landmark rap group N.W.A.

DNC - Starts Today
DENVER - Michelle Obama cast herself and husband Barack as people guided by bedrock American values and a desire to improve the world for their two daughters and all children in her address Monday to the Democratic National Convention.
She was slotted as the showcase speaker on Day One of the convention, and her mission was to help voters get to know the Democratic nominee as a husband and father, as someone who understands the problems that families face every day.
"We want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them," she said in excerpts released in advance of her appearance.
Obama said she and her husband were raised with the values shared by many Americans: "that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them."
"Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation," she said.
Voters know the public Barack Obama, the guy on magazine covers and nightly newscasts. His wife hoped to reassure voters that her husband is a lot like they are, despite all the attention given to his African father, his over-the-top minister and his exotic name.
And in an age when candidates' spouses face scrutiny, too, Obama also hoped to send the message that she a true believer in American values. The Obama campaign said Michelle Obama's life adds up to "a great American story: modest means but big dreams — and encouragement from loving parents."
The campaign prepared "South Side Girl," a biographical film narrated by Michelle Obama's mother, to run before her speech. She was being introduced by her brother, Craig Robinson, the head basketball coach at Oregon State University.
After the speech, Barack Obama planned to appear via satellite.
Michelle Obama's mother and brother joined her Monday morning for an inspection of the massive stage where she was to speak later in the day. Daughters Malia and Sasha tagged along, as did Barack Obama's sister Maya Soetoro-Ng.
Seven-year-old Sasha got to peek over the podium and bang the gavel, sending a "thump" echoing across the convention hall. Then her mother did the same.
Obama's speech stresses her role as a mother.
"I come here as a Mom whose girls are the heart of my heart and the center of my world. They're the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning, and the last thing I think about when I go to bed at night," she said.
Since Barack Obama launched his campaign more than 18 months ago, his wife has helped humanize him.
She has reminded voters that he can be sloppy. She scolds him for leaving a clogged toilet for her to handle. The couple frequently tell people that her words of inspiration before his big 2004 convention speech were, "Just don't screw it up, buddy."
She also talks about Barack Obama being raised by a single mother who sometimes struggled to make ends meet and she describes their own challenges of juggling the demands of work and children.
But Michelle Obama has also created complications for her husband — most famously, that the campaign had made her proud of America for the first time in her adult life. She later said she meant pride in the political process, not in the country in general.
Critics have dissected everything from her college thesis to a "fist bump" with her husband.
To counter such critics, Obama planned to drive home that her success is the result of hard work by two loving parents — "a father who was a blue collar city worker, and a mother who stayed at home with my brother and me." They managed to send both children to Ivy League schools.
Fraser Robinson was a Democratic precinct captain who worked swing shifts at the water plant. His wife Marian raised the kids in a one-bedroom apartment on the top floor of her aunt's house, where Michelle and Craig slept in the living room, converted into two tiny bedrooms and a study area.

It was definitely a good day for all of those that showed up at Club Avenue DC to catch our latest MySpace RELEASE show. This time around, it was hip hop icon, ICE CUBE, who celebrated the release of his latest album, RAW FOOTAGE.
Though doors to the hidden 3rd floor room of the club opened at 10pm, Cube didn’t hop on stage until around 12:30am (might have been due to the Raider Game that was on). While they waited for his arrival, the eager was excited to see Ice Cube's lifelong friend, DJ Crazy Toones take the stage.
Taking the stage with partner in crime, WC, Cube (clad in all black with a Nationals cap) ran through his catalog of albums and performed new tracks “Do Your Thang,” and “Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It” from Raw Footage and classic hits including “You Can Do It,” "Gangsta Nation" and “Today Was A Good Day” – in which he appropriately changed the lyrics to “…the Wizards beat the Supersonics.”
With MySpace bandanas in hand, the crowd left with big smiles on their faces. Thanks to everyone for coming out. To the staff of Avenue DC and to Cube and team for another great show!
